I-864 question! Proof of US citizenship. And other question.

So the first page it says you need to show proof of US citizenship. Wouldn't the SSN number that is required to be inputted be enough to proof US citizenship? Also does only the joint sponsor need to submit the i-864. Or do I also need to submit an i-864?

No, SSN is not enough. Students on F-1 visas, professionals on work visas and LPRs are only some people who also have SSNs besides US citizens. Many more non US citizens have SSN.

 

To prove US citizenship, you can submit copy of US birth certificate, or naturalization certificate or US passport.

 

The petitioner should always submit I-864 with all evidence of financials and proof of US citizenship.

 

Same goes for joint sponsor.

A joint sponsor must provide evidence of EITHER US Citizenship or a Green Card, and evidence they are living in the USA currently.  A US Citizen Petitioner with an approved I-130 and a US address as their current address, needs neither of those, as they've already provided evidence of citizenship with their petition.  Yes, the petitioner must provide an I-864 no matter what.

Here's somebody got denied for not proving main sponsor's citizenship in I-864 as one of the reasons. I assume they had to prove citizenship to get I-129F approved? Is this different?

Proof of US Citizenship is not a listed document for the petitioner in a spouse of US Citizen case.  Your example is in a different context, and I suspect there is more to the denial than is explained initially.  I didn't read the whole thread, but required documents for adjusting from K1, are not the same as for a spouse visa case.  Context matters....greatly.

Well, K-1 can only be filed by US citizen and it will require proving US citizenship. This petition was approved, hence citizenship was established for I-129F but somehow was required again for I-864 when filing I-485.

 

What I'm saying it doesn't hurt proving petitioner's citizenship with I-864. If anything, it's benefiting. As other thread showed, RFE specifically asked for main petitioner's proof of citizenship. I-864 instructions also call for evidence to be provided:

 

"For U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship. "

There is no instruction for a petitioner to provide evidence of US Citizenship in the context of an already approved I-130 in a spouse of US Citizen case.  You have quoted instructions in a different context.  My advice is correct for the context in which the question was asked.  You're welcome to show me the full context of the part of the instructions you are misinterpreting.
