Hello,

 

I am an American and my husband is a Canadian citizen. The NVC has told us that they have received all of our documents as of 11/20/24. Can anyone tell us how long it takes to get an interview date for Montreal? Do we get to pick our own date or we are just given one? We are working with a lawyer who has been submitting paperwork on our behalf. The lawyer does not currently have any other clients in Canada so is not able to get us any kind of timeline. We appreciate any information!

By that do you mean you were Documetarily Qualified (DQ)? If not, you have to first wait for that to happen.

Received is not the same as complete or Documentary Qualified.

 So we are not sure that you are in line for the interview yet 

 

For a sense of recent waiting times, search this site for Canadian applicants for CR/IR1 visas and look at their timeline

You might want to point your lawyer in the direction of their website! https://ca.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visa-process/

 

As the website says, once you're DQ'ed (it's not clear if you are yet), it's currently approximately 3 months for an IL. You can keep an eye on the link above, they usually update it once a month or so.

No we are not documentary qualified yet. We were only told that they received the documents. Do you all know how long it takes to get a DQ, once they have received the paperwork?

Updated every week, but you should be hearing very soon, although Thanksgiving may delay things by a couple of days. Does your CEAC say all docs are acceptable?

 

If you're trying to work out timescales for your husband to move, don't make any firm plans as there's a higher chance of AP in Montreal (see the Canada specific forum for more info).

We just checked my husband's account and it says he has been DQ'd as of 11/20/24. @appleblossom You had said in an earlier post something about IL? What is that exactly, and what does that mean for my husband? From this point on, are we just waiting for him to get an interview date now?

IL = Interview Letter (although it actually comes via email). 

 

Yes, you just have to wait now until he gets a date.
