Is greencard still valid

My inlaws received their greencard thru my husband. They went back and forth from USA to India for few years. For the last 4 years they did not come- first due to covid and then my mother in law had significant health issues due to rheumatoid arthritis. 
 My husband is their only child and they desire to be with him now. Please advise do we file a petition again? Or is their greencard still valid?

Are the expiration dates on the GCs valid?

If their GCs are still valid, they can come back.  They may face additional questions at the POE about maintaining residency in the U.S., or why they have been absent for so many years, but CBP cannot take away anyone’s LPR status.  If they do come back tell them not to sign anything at the POE such as an I407.

 

If their GCs are no longer valid or expired, they would need to file an I90 prior to trying to come back.
