About Name on ds-260

hello guys- i have one question ..

Actually i filed i-130 for my wife last year ...

so the thing is on my wife's passport its just given name -  Manxx Kaxx . and no surname --- its blank ... so when i filed i-130 i putt  Manxx as first name and Kaxx as last name on i-130...  same thing i did on ds-260... first and last name...  

so the thing i want to ask is it big issue ... if i remain everything same.. she can travel to us with that.. i dont care about fnu on visa or something..  is she got any issue with biometrics with that name ...

Why did you introduce discrepancy and not fill however her passport says the name?

Hello, 

For my wife visa everything worked out when we placed Kaur in the surname field. Anytime you fill out any application related to US [visa, NVC, social security, citizenship] keep putting Kaur in the surname field. It will be fine.

i know the name . i told before  on her passport its both in given name  - first and last... surname field empty.. thats by i putted first name and last on ds-260

Regardless of what you put on the DS260, the name currently as it is in the passport is what will be printed on visa and green card.

Can't she get a new passport with last name filled or your culture doesn't allow last/surname names?

For others, please follow through what this forum admin/folks has suggested. However, Singh and Kaur is so common that it automatically gets placed inside of surname field. Changing that in India on surname [passport] is huge hassle. For us, we always checked after each step to make sure its getting processed correctly. We did not change any documents in India. When in doubt just tell the officer to put Singh/Kaur in the surname.

For the "reader" do note that no US Immigration forms use the term "Last Name".  The field is called "Family Name" with (Last Name) in parenthesis.  There's three spaces for names.  "No Family Name", and "No Middle Name" are the correct entries if those names don't exist.  Many older people from Indonesia, for example, only have a single name.  I've known many people with two middle names.  In that case enter both middle names in the middle name field.

 

The kind of error mentioned above is pretty common and the Consulate will deal with it properly.  The sooner the correct name is entered properly, the better though.

ok. so she applied for a new passport.. as splitting name .. to last and first name..   so when she got passprot need to let uscis know??

so brother.. we just applied for new passport for my wife in india... to put kaur in last name.. now she will get first and last on ger passport... question about like we already filed i-130 as first and last name... so i have to send uscis new paasport right? u have any idea what i have to say like why i changed passport.

No need to contact USCIS. Present new passport at consulate visa interview. Good luck.
