I 751 Approved but says not to travel outside of the country in the letter

I have received the 797 which extends the green card by 48 months and have a trip to Canada planned. I just received an approval for the 751 i have filed in September and it says :

 

"You should not travel outside the United States until you receive your new Green Card, as you may have difficulty reentering the United States. If an emergency arises and you have a need to travel outside the United States before you receive your Green Card, you may make an appointment at your local USCIS office to request an I-551 stamp in your passport that shows temporary evidence of status as a lawful permanent resident. Please be aware that USCIS field office management determines whether to issue an I-551 stamp on a case-by-case basis. To make an appointment at your local USCIS office, please visit www.uscis.gov."\

 

is this just boilerplate language or does this override the 797? Very confused by the contradictory language.

Yes.  You can travel with the expired Green Card along with the extension letter until your Green Card arrives.

 

Note:  Did you file your I-751 in September 2024?  Congratulations!!  Some of us waited more than 3 years.

Registered Nurse- Retired- I practiced in the areas of Labor & Delivery, Home Health, Adolescent Psych, & Adult Psych.

IT Professional- Retired- Web Site Design, Hardware Maintenance, Compound Pharmacy Software Trainer, On-site go live support, Database Manager, App Designer.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Our I-751 took 44 months.....No RFEs.....rock solid case.   Good luck on the rest of your journey.  The N-400 is a piece of cake.
