GM is nuts -- the Impala 4 years ago, the Malibu now.

All the cars being discontinued for 2025:  Here's what we'll miss

The arrival of the 2025 model year means new faces in the showroom—and a few farewells.

As automakers shift their focus to electric powertrains and SUVs, some classic nameplates, powerful sports cars, and economic models are getting left behind.  Here's the rundown on everything that won't make it to next year, from discontinued sedans to performance icons we'll miss.  [...]

https://www.yahoo.com/autos/cars-being-discontinued-2025-ll-200422551.html

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Waves bye to the slow moving poorly selling cars.

And … good luck to the manufactures journey for electrification of their lineup. May the cars come with long extension cords or a self contained electric generation device.

Cars have had a self contained electric generation device for many years. It is called an ICE engine, and the emissions from those engines have been improved so much, often cars are filtering the air when they are operating.

My wife is not very happy as her favorite car is being discontinued.  She absolutely loves the XT4, the size, and the style is perfect according to her.  I agree with the criticism of the domestic manufacturers, GM and Ford, (I refuse to call Stellantis a domestic manufacturer anymore) ditching the sedan.  I liked both the Impala and the Malibu, and the best vehicle I ever drove in the past five years was a loaded Buick Lacrosse.

Apparently the average price for a new car from the legacy Manufacturers is around $50k. Now quite how many people can afford that is an interesting question.

And good luck finding that many at that price at your local Ford dealer.

and therein lies the rub ... that infernal ICE and/or self contained electric generation device.

the ICE is so bad that CA wants to ban new cars with ICE somewhere around 2035. Is the technology truly ready for this? is the CA power grid ready?  🤣

I can here the music now ... "rolling blackouts here i come ...right back where I started from .."

the big push to EV fills a niche need for some people though not for all as being promoted and championed by many

now hybrid is another story which seems a respectable compromise. toyota appears to understand this space very well.

Maybe you meant infrastructure, and yes, the ability of the current electric grid is questionable particularly with so many base load plants being taken offline.  EVs in general may fill the needs of many people, but for the government to label these vehicles as "green", or "emissions free" is disingenuous.  EVs have a lot of emissions during the production stage, and during usage depending on the electricity supply.  Overall, the studies I have seen are inconclusive as to EVs being environmentally better than ICE as the studies do not use the same assumptions and same starting and ending points (many EV studies seem to be somewhat slanted when it comes to end-of-life emissions).  Also, the emissions from mining, and yes EVs require a lot of mining, are very hard to determine, so many EV cradle to grave studies tend to err on the side of optimism with respect to those emissions.  I linked the most comprehensive study I have found, and since it is not all rosy for EVs it tended to be ignored by the environmental zealots.

Lastly, I am so sick of EV zealots using the analogy of the horse and buggy when comparing EVs to ICE vehicles.  There is little difference from a functionality standpoint between EVs and ICE (i.e. EVs are not some great leap in technology over ICE as powered vehicles in general were over the horse and buggy).  Sure many manufacturers seem to put a lot of software in EVs that are not currently in ICE vehicles, but that is a marketing choice as those same features could be put in ICE applications.  Also, there are some differences functionally where an ICE is superior to EVs the main one being Availability.  Availability is a reliability measure of "the degree to which a system, subsystem or equipment is in a specified operable and committable state at the start of a mission, when the mission is called for at an unknown, i.e. a random, time" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Availability), and EVs certainly can have an availability issue especially on longer trips where it takes an excessive amount of time to "recharge" it to a usable driving range, whereas an ICE can be back moving in minutes.  Sure, not everyone is doing long drives, but having the freedom to do so is a strike against EVs.

Forgot the EV study I mentioned.

Power grid and/or infrastructure. the complete architecture from generation to distribution in CA is pathetic. The path they've chosen is for failure unless a lot of work is done for support before the magical year 2035.

NIMBY is a good term to use for CA when it comes to in-state power generation facilities. expansion in this capability within CA is just not happening.

When it comes to EV's, many people wear blinders and focus on the media/government message. They put hands over ears and yell "la la la la I can't hear you" when you try to explain the entire life cycle of EV creation, support and disposal. They only prove PT Barnum was right, then parrot the feel good words "it's good for the environment ... see no emissions from a tailpipe or oil to dispose".
