Hi! I am a U.S. Citizen and my parents are from India. I want to adjust their status but they don't have a birth certificate or a marriage certificate. They were born in 1950 and 1956 and married in 1975. What options do they have in terms of alternate documents? Thank you in advance!

When alternative documents are accepted, they are listed on the reciprocity schedule:

Exactly what is said. The link goes to the USCIS webpage where the OP will find the answer to the question asked .. The alternate documents of the specified document is not available ., it’s up to USCIS to specify if an alternate document is acceptable.

The link doesn’t go to USCIS website but DOT website. But does the link get audited if USCIS will accept a different document?

Where are your parents currently?  Did you read the documents listed here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/India.html

Parents in India. It literally says that for alternate documents read comment section and there’s nothing alternate in comment section so that’s why clarifying what does this mean?

Alternate Documents: See comments section.

Exceptions: None

Comments: Hindu Marriage Act is applicable to Hindus, whereas the Special Marriage Act is applicable to all citizens of India irrespective of their religion. Please note that marriages by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, or Sikhs may be voluntarily registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.

A marriage certificate issued by a Christian church needs to be registered in the office of The Registrar of Marriages.  The registration authority varies from state to state.

My mom had the same situation once we were going through the same process. I remember my dad registering her birth in the local office and also stamp paper like a legal paper attested. We also had some relatives write statements about her birth and notarized it.

Affidavit from family members who can verify their birth.
