Hi!

I got scheduled my interview for naturalization. I applied through marriage, although I have been a resident for 5 years by now. My I-751 still appears pending as of now, despite having a scheduled interview for citizenship.

The interview notice says I need to bring my spouse's certificate of naturalization. I am not white, and when she married me her mom who is a bit racist decided to cut her out of her life. The mother also has the certificate of naturalization in her house which is hard to obtain for obvious reasons.  My wife does have a scanned version of it, but no original. She does have her recently renewed US passport.

Is her passport + certificate of naturalization copy enough for the interview? Getting a new certificate is $500+ and a relatively long process, which I am not sure we can get before the appointment.

Thanks!

Theoretically you can ask to amend your N-400 to use General Provision.

There's also a chance you may never be asked for her birth certificate so you can try your luck.

Bring everything you have.

Also, her mother doesn't own your spouse's birth certificate. Realistically your wife can also go as far as filing a police report to get her vital document back.
