No one can say for sure what he will do. I think USCIS is fee funded so it doesn’t get much funding that could be cut. I believe last time he directed USCIS to look at past cases for fraud. So, that slowed things down since staff was relocated, plus additional paperwork requirements that also slowed things down some. The only thing to really do is wait and see what happens. Change moves slow in government so the changes would not happen right away in January.

Immigration is primarily funded by fees paid by applicants and petitioners seeking immigration or naturalization benefits. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is almost entirely funded by fees, with about 96% of its funding coming from filing fees and only 4% from congressional appropriations

it is part of DHS with following sections which he would not want cut like ICE and border patrol

Below is contact information for different Department of Homeland Security components.
  • CISA.
  • FEMA.
  • Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
  • Transportation Security Administration.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
  • U.S. Coast Guard.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Any of the immigration programs that President Biden put in place with executive orders over the last few years can be removed as soon as President Trump is in office.

If you can apply for one of those programs, make sure you do so now.  (Applications already in the process have a better chance of getting approved than ones that haven't started yet.)

my predication is he'll massively cut funding for USCIS resulting in waiting times going from months and years, to decades. what do you all think?

Not cutting the funding per se, but his admin can use other means to slow down the legal immigration. They could interfere with the workforce at USCIS, but also keep the DoS from operating normally. Their loathing of merit-based civil service employees, especially the Foreign Service is notorious. No one knows where this is gonna go, but my concern would be more in regards to the DoS (embassies, consulates, etc) than to USCIS.

he will spend the 1st months with appointments

Embassy ambassdors if he wants to appoint new but that position does not affect an interview/ there are rules that USCIS has for CO's to follow to approve or deny any petition

THE FOLLOWING TAKES TIME

As of 2016, there were around 4,000 political appointment positions which an incoming administration needs to review, and fill or confirm, of which about 1,200 require Senate confirmation.

i would suspect he will , again,  make the ban on countries known for having terriorist training camps

Government Abbott of Texas is already building the wall between his state and Mexico

Every Republican voted against the H.R 29 bill (May 2024) to increase border security so he didn't want border security/  he wanted Caos to help his election.

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday proposed hiring 10,000 additional Border Patrol agents and giving them a $10,000 retention and signing bonus, after he derailed a bipartisan bill earlier this year that included funding for more border personnel.

My guess is Trump is going to appoint Steven Miller as the Secretary of Homeland Security. He is a known anti-immigrant advocate and will do whatever needs to prevent legal and illegal immigration. Further Trump has already announced that he is planning to round up all illegal immigrants and ship them back to where they came from. Even people under Temporary Protected Status will not be exempted. Resources from USCIS, NVC, DOJ and Homeland security is going to be reassigned for these tasks. This could cause delays in all categories including legal  and employment based immigration.

the cost of sending 11 million illegals home is something we can not afford  so that Trump statement is rediculous

Didn't Trump have to file an I-130 to get Melania here? Just saying....

No,

Melania Trump obtained US citizenship on a visa reserved for immigrants with "extraordinary ability" and "sustained national and international acclaim", according to a report in the Washington Post.

he bought most of his hotel workers here on a work visa

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

Well hopefully the new administration will respect and support our efforts to do things the right way, legally. I pause to say the process couldn't take any longer 🙄
