Hi everyone I really need help answering this question because I am not sure.

We are assembling our papers for NVC and want to make sure I understand this step right. My husband (the beneficiary is Tunisian and lives in Tunisia).

What I understand is:

we need to fill out DS260, and upload civil documents. The Civil documents are: birth certificate, marriage certificate, ID, Passport and  I read somewhere about military records? My husband never went to the miltary, do we need to submit anything ?

And for myself I live in the U.S I would submit the affadavit of support and my tax return.

Please I need answers about the military question and just confirmation on what documents are needed.

This is the very best site.  It has country specific information on all areas including military record requirements. You will need to click on the country specific link and scroll down for your country, visa type and information needed. May take some time working through it but it is very useful for both informing  and reassuring yourself

I did not do any military service so just said so.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

20-23 years of age for compulsory service for men with a 12-month service obligation; individuals engaged in higher education or vocational training programs prior to their military drafting are allowed to delay service until they have completed their programs (up to age 35); exemptions allowed for males considered to a family's sole provider; 18-23 years of age for voluntary service for men and women (2023)

So, if served, u need to provide record of servicet

if not served,  u need letter of exemption from military

Tunisian citizens can request an exemption from military service if they meet certain criteria, including:

  • Being medically unfit for service
Being the sole financial supporter for their family
  • Being older than 28 and legally residing abroad
