Biometrics appointment after green card approval ?

Hello,

My wife has an EB3 green card. As a spouse, I also got one as a result and went through the consular processing at the consulate in Frankfurt/Germany. I had my interview in Frankfurt at the end of May 2024. At that time I was also photographed and fingerprinted. So basically what they call “biometrics”. My GC was approved in June 2024 and I entered the USA with it for the first time on September 9. This means I currently have the I551 stamp in my passport and I want to move permanently at the beginning of March 2025, which means I'm currently back in Germany. So at the moment I'm basically waiting for the physical GC to be produced and sent to the American address (where my wife lives).

Now I've received a summons to my wife's US address, summoning me to a biometrics appointment in Philadelphia. I was immediately threatened that my petition would be rejected if I did not attend the appointment. Can someone explain to me what the point of this is if the GC has already been approved? That wouldn't be the case if something was still missing, would it?

USCIS could have detected something related to the quality of the biometrics, or a problem with the photos taken that are keeping your physical card from being produced etc.  Personally I would look at calling USCIS and trying to get a response from a Tier 2 customer service rep (don't waste your time with the tier 1 person), and see if you can figure out why they are asking for additional biometrics, and see if the appointment can be re-scheduled for after you arrive in March (unless you plan on traveling between now and then to the US).

Good Luck!
