The paper version asked for addresses from 5 years ago. So I listed some (3).

The online version (for military) is only asking for one (current).

Question:

- Do I need to make it so that both are the same? E.g. only 1 address for both versions.

(Need to file both paper and online by the way.)

Will the USCIS care about the 3 vs. 1 difference between the 2 versions?

Did you use paper or online form?

If you listed more than you minimally required, I don't see an issue.

Why do you need to file both? Typically one is required per person.

I'm doing both.

And as for why . . . I have no idea.

The instruction paper I received from the Marine Corps says to:

a. Bring a physical copy of the N-400 to Boot Camp.

b. Fill out (but not submit until arrival at Boot Camp) the N-400 online.

Reason why I'm on the fence about this is:

Because the online version specifically states to only put down 1 address if applying on the basis of being in the military.

If I put down more than 1, would the system / whoever's reviewing the case, misinterpret my basis for applying?

I.e.: they'll think I'm not applying on the basis of being in the Marines because I ended up putting down more than 1 address when they specifically stated to only put 1.

Now, of course, the system / whoever's reviewing this is very likely to not make that simple mistake of misinterpretation --- but you know how it is: People get anxious about little, trivial stuffs when submitting forms like this; so I'm kinda overthinking things right now.

Why not ask the person instructing you to bring both paper and online forms? Are they reviewing the forms before you submit them?

Somewhere at the top of the form it should ask which basis you're applying under.

I don't think giving more addresses will cause any issue.

People applying under 3 year rule see such inconsistencies too. They only need to provide 3 years but online form prompts for 5 years.

AFAIK it's not a big deal.

Is the opposite true?

Giving no more than the required no. of add? (Instead of supplementing more from the paper version.)

Like, put 1 online but keep 3 adds on paper?

Probably a question to the person instructing to fill both forms. This seems bizarre, but hey I don't file N-400 as a member of military every day.

Are you sure they're not asking just to print out what ever you fill out online?

Yes. The instruction has stated it multiple times (to emphasize) to bring a physical copy (answered by pen) and to fill out (but not upload) the same form online.

On the paper N400 form it says....

"If you are filing based on other naturalization eligibility options, see Part 4. in the Specific Instructions by Item Number section of the Instructions for the applicable period of time for which you must enter this information"

In the N400 instructions on page 10 it says...

"Part 4. Information About Your Residence...

If you are filing based on military service during a period of hostilities, under Item Number 1.E. in Part 1.
Information About Your Eligibility, you do not have to list every location where you have lived, only the current
location.
"

So the correct answer is list only your current location either online or on the paper form.

I'll be submitting this on the day I go to Boot Camp. (Nov. 4)

At the time of submission, wouldn't today's date be wrong? (Oct. 31.)

Not sure if the USCIS cares too much about little stuffs like this.

Put current date of form submission.

I already put down 3 addresses on my paper N-400 but I plan to only put 1 online.

I could go out and print off this page of the N-400 to redo it again.

But that'll cost money and time.

If possible, do you think the paper (with 3 addresses) would suffice? Even if I only put 1 online?

Or do I have to make them exactly the same?

1 Address on Paper.

1 Adress Online.

I agree with OldUser that giving more than what was asked is probably is harmless.   The specific instructions say "you do not have to list every location where you have lived, only the current location. But it does not say you can't list every location where you have lived.
