Question about proof of relationship regarding online games.

I know this is a crazy question, but I don't know where to go for an answer anymore LOL

Me and my fiancé play a game called FFXIV in which you make characters to play with, and said characters can get "married" in-game. Obviously it's just a silly cute thing to do, nothing legally binding.

We are putting together our proof of relationship document and pictures of said "wedding" came up, and we thought it'd be a good idea to add them since they have a date from pretty early on in the relationship.

However, I'm scared they'll be used as proof that we're already married, and that the K1 visa would be refused. Am I totally overthinking this? Should I just not include them? lol

Thanks in advance :D

Online "relationship evidence" is weak.  Do not include it.  The best evidence is time spent in person.

Thank you both :)
I read online that online evidence could work, but obviously coming here was the right answer after all!

We'll be sticking with itineraries and pictures together.

Me and my fiance met online and play video games together, we then had several physical visits and trips etc. We included a brief paragraph stating how we met (online via a gaming group chat) and that's all. Online evidence isn't really as helpful here as physical meets, evidence of time spent in person, boarding passes, pics of you together etc etc.

We got approved with no issue, I'd say 95% of our evidence was of the physical in person meets and stuff we did together physically, then the other 5% would've been like the brief summary of how we met and a screenshot of 2 social media posts-  one of our engagement and one of a family trip/event where family members all attended. that's it in relation to "online" stuff. Like others' have said, best evidence is time spent in person.

Hello fellow Eorzean :)

Me and my fiance also met through FFXIV! answering your question, we did not include anything game related to our case, accept for mentioning that we met on an online game on the I-129F form. Remember, we are versed in the FFXIV world because we play it, but for people who don't it just doesn't have any importance, plus ingame we use usernames, not our real names which any ''ingame proof of relationship'' wouldn't tie to our real identities .

Include real life proof to your case instead, like dated pics taken together in person, screenshots of your video calls, text messages, dms, call records, plane tickets, receipts of accommodation if any, etc etc.

Same, my now-husband and I met on Second Life.  Our evidence connecting us through that was very minimal since for the better part of the first two years we knew each other, we called each other by our handles, not even our real names.

Online connections just don't translate well.  Focus on the real, you'll be fine. :)

(also F the haters, we had an in-world wedding as well.  I get the importance of it, even if USCIS and people who aren't part of these communities don't)

Lv 60 Black Mage here, at least way back when I played. Don't get me started on the Duty Finder.

Treat any interactions with USCIS as a potential employer and you a candidate. Think of this as a job interview. I met my spouse online too, not through an MMO but through gaming-related chat in general, but I know governmental bodies will have zero interest in in-game interactions. Real life takes priority, in all things, so make sure you showcase that in your evidence going forward.

It's important to not only make a good first impression, but to maintain it throughout the immigration process. Good luck.

Honestly, I was fully expecting most people to be "weirded out" by my question, I get how it can be a weird thing to consider when you arent part of the community!

But it's really nice to see there's so many other people who also have games as their main link together, especially couples who have already been successful in their visa journey ❤️

Thank you and all the warriors of light who replied, it means a lot!
