My wife and I have a son who has a CRBA citizenship. He therefore is not on the application nor part of the process aside from being proof of relationship. I only have 1 copy of his CRBA and don't want to give it up to the embassy during the interview. Will a photocopy be sufficient or do I need to request a certified copy, knowing anything she gives them is not going to be returned?

You take the original ( and a regular copy ) w you at interview, they look at it and return it to you on the spot…they will not keep it or confiscate it

Correct, and also there are no certified copies of a CRBA available anyway.

I was about to apply for copy using form ds 5542, is that not a certified copy? If not what is it?

It is …and clearly states ‘..this is to certify “ it’s just that people are accustomed to calling it an” original”.
‘It’s a good idea to have an extra, so order it anyway

Nope I’m aware that I have a copy. But thank you. I understand it as it is a duplicate copy of what I have now. Which is also a certified copy.

Replace or amend.  "

  • Our office only issues replacement or amended CRBAs."

Is replacement different from additional copy? Does one void the other like a passport?

Yes.  You replace a lost document.

On a similar topic, should I upload the CBRA into the documents section of the NVC CEAC site? will that help or hurt anything that they can see we have a child together already? Do I also need to add a household member (our son) to the CEAC site? My 864 indicates 3 people, 1 of which is "dependent children under 21", but I didn't add him to the household on ceac..

CEAC is about what is needed from petitioners and visa applicants. If you have a child living with you in the USA, they are just counted in your household size on the Affidavit of Support.  They are not "named" or otherwise mentioned.

Thank you pushbrk, So on the CEAC site where it gives me the option to “add household member” I do not need to add him? Is that correct?

You see that under the affidavit of support. The context is that you add a household member and their income, in order to qualify as sponsor.  Unless your son or daughter's income is needed and they are completing an I-864a, you have no reason to do that.

Ok thank you pushbrk! I was just double checking that we have everything in order to prevent any delays from happening.
