Hi,

I just wondered what it takes to get a religious exemption, in terms of what kind of religious text is accepted.  Obviously there were no vaccines when the bible was written, so I'm wondering what text would be acceptable?

Also, what are the chances of an exemption?  Are they common?

Thanks in advance.

It would depend on the religion.

There's a forum for waivers, might be worth having a search in that.

Waiver typically adds additional year or more to processing times.

You'd get a better chance of waiver approval if you have a proven track record of:

1) Refusing vaccines throughout your life (e.g. you never got any vaccines)

2) You're a member of religious organization or believer who takes active participation in it

3) Some examples of what religion says about vaccinations. Quotes from holy books, religious leaders etc.

I'm not an expert in this area, but I'd imagine there's a high burden of proof. Protecting US public health is one the top priorities for US government, your reasons must be compelling to get an exception.

You're gotta be pretty sure your religion doesn't allow vaccinations. If unsure, the chances of approval are lower.

From my understanding, if you've had any vaccinations at all then you're going to have a hard time pulling a religious grounds waiver. You have to have documented proof of refusing ANY AND ALL vaccines on ethical or religious grounds. And couple that with documented texts that support your religion being against vaccinations.

I was strongly against Covid vaccines for personal reasons, and I can very much cite ethical ones as well, but they didn't budge one bit on it.

To sound just a tiny bit crass, I would think that if you have religious objections to getting a vaccine you would have no problems whatsoever articulating on what grounds you object, including ample citations. But that's just me... :)

What are your intentions, with your comment?

CofE is going to be a push.

Which religion are we talking about?

Out of all the religions represented in this community, it is Christians that post the most on this topic.  (And I am a Christian myself, so I am not trying to alienate you).  There is nothing against taking vaccines in the Christian religion.  it is a self-generated fear based on misinformation and social media hype. If you don't want to retake childhood vaccines, see if the Dr. will accept a titre test.  If it is the COVID vaccine you are worried about.... again there was a lot of hype about this.  If you don't want to take the vaccines, you can't immigrate, plain and simple.

The OP has been very general and has not specified what religious belief is involved.

Well, he said the Bible, so I am assuming Christian- which includes many denominations. But, yes appears to be pulling for a lot of straws to get out of it. After rereading the post I see what you are saying.

Actually, moral objection is one of the options for vaccine waiver. Besides, what falls under religion under freedom of religion also has the option of not following any religion at all.
