Please forgive me in advance you Canadians out there, but I can't wait to leave here and start the U.S. immigration process for my hubby. Canada has been nothing but bad luck, bad news, and bad vibes since the day I arrived 2 years ago.

02/15/2006: Began Canadian Immigration

09/19/2007: Withdrew CIC application (they still hadn't processed anything)

10/01/2007: Moved back to U.S.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IR-1 application through Montreal Consulate

10/26/2007: I-130 mailed to CA Service Center

10/29/2007: USPS confirmation of receipt of I-130

02/02/2009: Responded to RFE with brand new AOS based on 2008 tax return (if that doesn't shut them up, dunno what will)

02/19/2009: EAD card received in mail (no updates on Online Case Status ever made)

02/23/2009: AP received (again, no online updates)

Not everything works out for everyone. I enjoy the US a lot more the Canada, but if the US votes for another republican president I may be starting this process over again to bring my wife to Canada. :)

Not another Canada bashing post, lol!! I guess it all depends where ya live in Canada, or any part of the world!! I grew up in Prince Albert Sk. 10 yrs in Victoria BC, 2 + yrs in Greenwood NS and stays in Winnipeg and Calgary, and very short stay Uranium city SK, oh ya a few yrs in La Ronge Sk. I was pretty happy in al those places, but I know I wouldn't be happy in a huge city!! I know reside outside Washington DC, and I don't really care for it! It is ok, but would prefer to be in a smaller city. But I am with my wife, so can't complain. Hopefully once I'm done school (RN) we can move further away from DC or even travel the world. Wife's job has opportunities to travel, so hopefully we can do that!! Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Sorry to hear that! I don't know many people with the same view but I apologize that our country hasn't treated ya well! Hope you find better luck in the US.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Delicia, could you be caught up in Canada's version of namechecks or something? (CIC does namechecks right?)

A typically Canadian response. :P

I'm sorry to hear about it too. Like most Canadians here, I love my country and am moving to the US only to be with my SO. But no country is perfect for everyone, and I hope you're happier after you move. :)

Forgiven. As a foreign citizen in Canada I can say that Saskatchewan was excellent to me. Alberta, now that's another story - bad vibes, name calling, racism, and other equally nice things for yours truly courtesy of Joe RedNeck. Nothing says Seattle will be any better, but I can understand your sentiment Delicia.

I do have to be thankful though, what were the chances of meeting Bren here????

No one will judge you here Delicia, just don't post this in Off Topic LOL ;)

I can certainly understand your frustration... I think there are some of us that have experienced the same thing here in the U.S. that you did in Canada... waiting, namechecks, bureaucracy SNAFUs... I hope you and your husband will be happier after you move as well. Don't forget that you can start the petition process now. No need to get a job first (the affadavit of support will come later).

She can't yet... she hasn't been granted PR status yet (still pending with CIC). But she can certainly still file the I-130 (and I-129F if she's doing K3) now.

Actually, I wonder if the U.S. consulates would allow a pending PR to file DCF...
