Hi Folks,

I called up the NVC for kicks since there was no change last Tuesday.

I got a new message today...

"NVC has received the Immigrant Visa fee Bill on August 6th 2007 and will send further instructions within the next few weeks..."

So does this mean that the DS-230 information packet should be generated in the next few weeks?

Or does it mean it was most likely generated on August 6th? Or maybe it will be generated Monday August 13th.

I think I will mail out the DS-230 form with the August 6th date on it but wondered if anyone else (Erica? Mononoke?) has received a message like this.

Thanks!

-Alex

Yep. I remember that as well.

I called the NVC and the person told me it should be sent out soon. In a week or two. He stressed soon...making me think that Monday will be the generation date. I am torn about mailing it ahead of time and gambling that the form will be generated next week.

On the good side, the rep told me that they received my AoS forms last Monday as well which will take 2-4 weeks to review.

I am leaving to visit the wifey tomorrow so I could always send it from Oz but it will take at least a week then. I am not fond of that idea. I might opt to have my good friend mail out my forms for me. I'll just give him a set of different dated cover sheets. It's so tough to decide what to do.

When I heard the magic words "NVC has received the immigrant visa fee bill on ... and will send further instructions within the next few weeks..." I took this as indication that the cover letter for the DS-230 package had been printed and was being sent soon. I then called an operator and she said that the package would be mailed "next week", but I mailed in the DS-230 form (following James's shortcuts) the very same day regardless. They accepted this and acknowledged receipt within two or three days. So in my case at least it worked fine. I see no reason why it shouldn't work for you as well.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I was of the same mindset. Even though the DS-230 information packet was not generated yet, I do believe it will be generated very soon (like next week). It's been in the system all week so I think it's plenty of time for the NVC to generate something.

What I might do is just send the DS-230 via regular mail. The few extra days it will take to get there might be enough time for the official packet generation to occur. Oh well, at least I know this is the last piece to the NVC puzzle.

I'm pretty sure our message said something like: 'the NVC has generated an instruction (or information) packet' ... which was their way of saying they'd generated the letter telling us where to download the DS-230.

So, it was a different message than the 'received' one. Then again, it seems they have been changing some things in the last month or so ... my information might already be outdated!

See... that's the thing that threw me off because they no longer have the automated system say that it has been generated.

What I would do Alex is call them every week (or everyday if you want) and ask "Have you mailed the DS-230 yet?" if they say soon, then nothing's been done. If they say "Yes" then ask them exactly WHEN they will mail it. Then they'll say something like "Some time this week" or "It's supposed to be mailed this week". With that answer you will know that the coversheet will have the date of the Monday of the week they say they would mail it. It's safer that way.

Do they really check the date it was generated for them to accept the DS230? Has anyone from VJ actually sent it in with just a guessed date, without confirming the generated date on the form? I wonder what would happen if you send it without the confirmation on the generated date....

I don't know about that one. But honestly, as long as their system says that the DS-230 has been generated, the date is irrelevant. So that's why you need to make sure that it has been mailed out.

Thanks Diana. I was thrown off too. Well I took a gamble. I went ahead and sent the DS-230 form last Saturday and dated it for the 13th. I will call again later this week and see if it "should have been mailed" this week. I guess I'll let you all know what happens if I am too early. I sense a lot of manual work behind the scenes so I am willing to test out a premature (incorrectly dated) mailing. The one thing I do know is that the IV Bill was processed and entered into the system so it's not like I couldn't technically mail them the DS-230 packet. I'll just have to wait and see. Since I am back in Oz with the wifey for a month, I am a little more relaxed about it all hehe. I hope it doesn't bite me in the butt. :)
