the cold is over-rated, lived in maine..and lost my left nut one winter....

i take moderate winters here in illinois,

daniel-san....you will be in a culture shock there..by far, one of the rudest groups of chopfucks..are in Philly..

My boss has asked if I were willing to move to Philly. Beign native Californian, my initial reaction was along the lines of "HELL NO"! :lol:

But now I am trying to take a minute or two to consider it. But I really do not know Philly to make a decision. Anybody got reasons for /against?

Hmm well I personally don't have much experience in Philly but my dad was born there, and his parents were born around there. A lot of my relatives were from NJ and Philly on one side of the family, the other side from NYC.

You will definitely be in culture shock I think. And it's sooo far from where you are now. Now I might be assuming that you are in more of a laid back mentality in California but it's very different in the Northeast, from what I have heard about comparing the two.

If you are up for an adventure of moving to the other side of the country and going through COLD winters, and hearing Philly accents every day, then go for it. :P If not, then I don't know if it's your best option. My grandmother still complains about the winters in Philly and we've been in FL for over 20 years now! lol

Wilminton is like 32 miles from Philly. anybody know about the commute in and around Philly? Is it a case of avoid at all costs?

My ex-wife and I lived in Philly for a year back in 82' in the twon of BenSalem about 15mile north the commute into center city where we worked was 11/2 hr each way everyday. That's on I95 a six lane expressway.

Redeaming features, if you like American revolutionary war history there is a ton of it there and nearby. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is great expect to spend more than one day, the Franklin Institute is interesting, Good resturants in center city entertainment district. Some top acts come through there regularly and are seen in smaller clubs Saw Tower of Power in a room of about 300 and Larry Carlton in a room about the same size.

I highly recomend that you make an exploritory trip before you agree.

I spoke to Ana about. She is open to the idea. I definitely need to find out a couple more things. but bgreed's post is definitely an eye opener. :yes: right now i commute 12 miles in 20 minutes.
