My fiance is fairly certain that she will be on her period during the week we planned to have her interview at the American Consulate in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. We are concerned that that might post an issue with respect to the medical exam. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We could certainly post-pone the week we intended to go but I had already gotten permission from a new employer to take that week off. In short, it would cause serious issues at my work. So this is causing a bit of stress for us.

Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would not recommend doing the medical during her period.

When my fiancee went, I made sure she was out of her period, and the physician did ask her when her last period was prior to doing the bloodwork. I believe they do not prefer to do the bloodwork during that week.

Call the physician's office in advance and ask.

The only way being on her period will affect the medical exam is if a vaginal exam is required. If not she'll be fine. Go ahead and confirm this with your doctor. Good luck.

I am no expert in this field. At all!!

Pero, BUt, I thought I read here that you cannot do the medical exam during the period, I think you will have to reschedule or hmmmm I am not sure, but maybe with hormones you can through the period off for a week. Like the pill, or there is a pill called Plan B, it is a the Morning After Pill, it is sold over the counter, and I believe it will delay the period for just 1 week, but I am not sure, you will have to do some checking

Ok, just talking to some friends of ours now who just went through the exact same process (K1, Ciudad Juarez) and they assure us that it is not an issue. My fiance is talking to her now ...

Eek!

I suspect going into detail about this would start a major flame-war here, but as a physician I feel like I should chime in. I'm just going to say this: the 'morning after' pill is over the counter for political reasons, NOT because it is any safer than prescriptions -- it actually contains a higher dose of hormones than the prescription pills do. It has some nasty side effects, like a very high incidence of nausea and vomiting, and should not be used in an attempt to adjust menstrual cycle timing.

At any rate: what's the big deal with her period? She's a woman. It happens once a month, give or take. Has anyone seriously had problems with the physical exam because of this normal, physiologically appropriate, monthly event?

Some people say I'm easily distracted, but that's not... Hey! A squirrel!

YES

thank you for chiming in

your advice as someone WHO does know is appreciated.

and it sounds as though you can have the exam with your period

so no problem

i just thought if he has no option with work

maybe that would be the only alternative

but i understand, that is nothing to play around with

Is there anyway a clear list of what is actually required and what not? Could you please post some links with more about what is going to be required, and how they decide on that kind of particularities.

I don't think I've seen anywhere in written statement that they should have a look there.

I did test this week and never been asked if i had periods or not.I dont think it somehow effects since they do only blood check up from vein.and they check only for Hiv and sifilis!

But so you dont stress just call the clinique and ask them if it is ok.also you have whole 2 month time after you recieve and envalope to do the test so whats a problem at all to choose time when is better for her.I just posted my experience from medical exam you can read it i put all details.

When I went for my Medical- the Doctor only looked down there for about 2 seconds. There was no Pap Smear involved.

I'm not sure how Medicals differ from Country to Country- it was my understanding that they only look to make sure everything looks normal.
