Hello, I met my boyfriend over a year ago, he is from Colombia. He is on a tourist visa that expired in January, we talked with a lawyer about what we could do and decided our best option was to get married now. I'm in Michigan and went to the county clerk with his passport but he didn't come, their computer systems are not working properly so they had to fill the stuff out themselves that I would normally do online. Well I give the lady the passport, I had marked down his birthday, gender, parents etc. but when she took the passport and looked everything over she then printed out the info and had just his correct age but not birthday, didn't include his middle name etc.. she said it was okay and I didn't know better. Later I noticed the gender was incorrect (we're gay) so I called they said come in the next day. Well for some reason this document was already signed by the county clerk, I thought that was fine. But when I got the correction I asked if the birthday and middle name was important and she said yes it all has to be correct or it will be invalid and was confused how the other woman had the passport and still put this. Well on my new paper the county clerk didn't sign it, so I'm not sure why it was the last time but not now, do I need to clarify that. I assumed after the other half is filled out she would but she already did... Also the other lady said well since he's not here with his ID I will put your address, I said okay because he's living with me. And when I asked the new lady she said uhh that should be fine. But he has an international ID with a different address in the same city. Will this be a problem? We have a lawyer for the rest of the process, but I don't want him to be denied over the address, or actually his mother's middle name is incorrect can something like that mess it up? I know part of this is on me this is just very new to me. But I feel weird about home the county clerks office handled it, hopefully just incompetence on both of our ends and hopefully not maliciousness. But I will get it corrected again if needed. Any information about the address, or just advice on this part of the process would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the rambling I'm kinda panicked over this. I don't want anything to go wrong. Thanks in advance.

In short. Does the address have to match his ID or can it be mine? Will his mother's middle name being incorrect be an issue? And does the county clerk need to sign before or after we get the license? She did before once and not after

I don't see the address mattering.  Passports are not tied to a physical address.  I know when my wife and I did ours, we used our (her new) address and her foreign passport for the marriage license and were fine.

Good Luck!

If he is now living with you than your address IS his correct current address.  Whatever different address is on any kind of ID is his previous address and no longer current.
