Hello,

I have been checking air fares online.  It is so strange that the roundtrip tickets are cheaper than one way.

PLAN:

Buy two round trip tickets for me and hubby (he is in Morocco).

Start at IAH (Houston) and fly to CMN (just me - even if I bought for both of us),

return to IAH with both of us.  Then go to Border Control.

Does this sound like a good plan?

round trip ticket = $800, one way = $1,400.

One ways are usually always more expensive than a return, as the airline has a duty to return you to the country of origin if you're refused entry, so they price that in to a one way.

Most people just buy returns, but that's for when they chose not to use the return leg. I flew on a return which I made sure was flexible so I could just use it some other time.

But you seem to be saying your husband wouldn't travel on the first leg? So I'm not sure that would work, as the return may well be cancelled if he's a no show for the first flight.

Thank you for the clarification.

Could I tell them that he took a different flight with different airline company?

You'd need to check the terms of booking. Most airlines have a no show clause that will mean they'll cancel the whole ticket.

I called KLM.  They said penalties will be applied (fees, revoked boarding, and etc).

The only way for him to miss the first leg is if he has medical note stating his family has a medical emergency.

I rather not risk that.  I'm sticking with my integrity and honesty.

Gonna suck it up and pay hefty 1 way ticket fee.

Thanks guys!

Emily

Does a round trip originating from overseas offer the same price advantage?  There's nothing to stop you from flying your round trip starting from the US and him taking the first leg of a round trip on the same flights as your return and then him canceling the return.

I fly quit a bit, I find this statement to be incorrect

Go to Delta Website and put in from DFW (Dallas USA) to MNL (Manila Philippines) on January 12th, round trip is like $1,573 and One way is around $850.

I myself when flying dont see a one way more expensive than round trip.
