My wife just had her interview.  She aced the civics part.  She did not pass the English part.  On the N-652, it states that she "will have another opportunity fo test your ability to

x speak

x understand English.

There is no "x" next to the "read" and "write".

So I'm guessing she's going to have a second chance at the portions marked "x" only?   She doesn't have to deal with the read and write?

Finally, she told me it was a long question of "have you ever...." that threw her off.  That and the follow up question of "why not?".  She told me she answered every short and straight forward questions correctly.

if she failed the interview that means her naturalization is denied. she can apply for naturalization again . there is no second chance. you can apply for n-400 again and go through process. however it would be better if your wife enrolls in english classes before attempting again to do the n-400 interview

just look at any public libraries nearby and they usually have ESL classes.

duh

Not in OPs case. Because she only failed the language part ( not civics) they will automatically rescheduled ( likely within 90 days) and re test her on the parts she did not score .

See bottom of pg 3 in link

Whoever fails civics or language portion of the test has another attempt without filing new N-400.

Another question is whether one can jump from zero to hero in few weeks...

YouTube has some decent videos with follow-up type questions if it was something like "Have you ever voted in a Federal election? No. Why not? Because that would be illegal....."  Apparently, beyond the basic reading and writing test, USCIS is supposed to ask follow-up questions if they suspect the person has merely memorized the correct simple one word answers but doesn't understand the English meaning of questions.  My own wife was going through some of the follow-up question videos and did not do as well on some of the English comprehension as even I would have thought.  She found the YouTube videos covering that scenario to be helpful.
