Filling out W8BEN from Bank of America.

The form is asking me for my FTIN.

- I never worked in the Philippines.

- HS graduate. No business or property to my name.

- No experience with taxes whatsoever.

As far as I know I never had a Tax Identifying Number in the PH.

....

There are 3 checkboxes.

1. I am not legally required to have a tax number from my country of residence.

2. My country of residence does not issue tax numbers.

3. Not provided.

....

Which one should I choose?

Do I have a tax number? I don't recall having one. Do students even get taxed?

In the Philippines it would be a TIN from BIR.  If you never worked in the Philippines then most likely you dont have one and are not required to have one.  So the answer would be "1."

However, aren't you a US Permanent Resident now???  W8BEN generally would not apply to US Permanent Residents so it seems your B of A app might have gone down the wrong path somehow if they are asking for one.

Yes, I'm an LPR.

Long story short: I'll open another account with another bank (reason is related to my work).

Question: If I were to not send this W8 back to BofA (because I'm opening a new account), would the IRS reprimand me / give me a bad record on their system?
