Toronto Travel Tips?????

my husband is going on a business trip to toronto.

so now that i have my green card, i can go with him.

he'll have to work, so i'll get to tour around myself.

can anyone give me tips & touring advice?

as neither one of us have been there.

we want to visit Niagara Falls too, what's the best way to get there?

Toronto.. GREAT TOWN to visit!!

The transit system rocks.. easy to use subways etc..!!

Niagra falls is beautiful as well.. but not sure how you get there other than renting a car and using the 401 UGH... I know they have "Go trains" to Hamilton which are express trains, but I don't know if they go further than that!!

Toronto is awesome. I'm from not too far away have spent a good amount of time there. It depends on the sorts of things you and your husband want to do. If you like shopping and like the outdoors, definetely get down to the Queen St. W area. Great shops and fun to shop outside. The Eaton's centre is also close by.

If you like museums, go to the ROM. The ROM is the best!! Always awesome exhibitions and cool things to see like mummies!

The easiest way to get to niagara falls from toronto is to drive, in my opinion. You just have to get on the QEW/401. However, if you go to pearson airport, there are tons of shuttles from there to niagara falls.

Check out Kensington Market too. It's very unlike any market in the world. Tons of different cultures and shops in a very small area.

Do you know what hotel you're staying at yet? I grew up in Toronto so I'm probably not the best to give "tourist" advice but I can tell you where things are in relation to your hotel.

Holiday Inn on King West? That's a pretty good location. It's not that close to Yonge Street. Maybe about a 15 minute walk but it's close to a TON of things downtown (I lived a 1/2 block away from there). You'll be within 15-20 minutes walking distance from a lot of things: Queen St. West, Chinatown, Kensington Market, Yonge Street... oh dear, this is making me miss Toronto and my old neighbourhood!

Museums are only free on certain days so best check the website. Also you may want to check out the Art Gallery of Ontario: http://www.ago.net/

That tells us nothing. Yonge Street is the longest street in the world. If you haven't been to Toronto, you would not believe how large it is. Do you know the cross streets? I ask because I grew up there. Anyone from as far away as Barrie, Whitby etc. will say they live in "Toronto". And sorry, but nothing in Toronto is free. You might want to go to Ontario Place or Harbourfront while you're there, down by the Lake. There is a very good lake cruise for $10.00 to take you around the islands. Heck, maybe you'd be interested in going to Centre Island? It's just a ferry ride away. Anyway, lots to see and do in Toronto, and everything is easy to get around to with public transporation. But things will cost you an arm and a leg!

The ROM is free 1.5 hours before closing... you could always do it over 2 days!

Wednesday evenings (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) at the Art Gallery of Ontario (permanent exhibits only) are also free.

I used this when we went to Niagra Falls a couple weeks ago.

We took this route

* To the Butterfly Conservatory and north Park attractions from Toronto:

BUT the left lane of the road (Stanley Avenue) goes to the Rainbow Bridge, and it was backed WAY up, causing the right lane (to the falls) to stop as well. We were stuck for about half an hour, might want to use the alt. We parked at the Falls parking lot. It's just above the falls, so if you take this route, don't panic you'll get there and it's on the right hand side. It is a bit of a walk if you want to check out the museums and stuff.
