Can I use my minor children's assets for I-864?

Hello.  I am sponsoring my wife for a visa and am working on gathering the materials and evidence for the I-864.  I am currently unemployed and will use my assets (which are well over 3x the poverty level) as well as my dad as a joint sponsor.

I have two children in the household with U.S. citizenship who are both under 18 and who have fairly sizeable U.S. bank accounts of which I am their custodian.

I considered filling out I-864A forms for them, but unfortunately it only applies to children over 18.

Would it be possible to include the kid's bank accounts as part of my my assets or are they both basically out of the picture until they turn 18?

If anybody out there has tried anything similar I'd appreciate hearing your experiences.

Thanks in advance!

If you qualify, there's no need for a joint sponsor.  Yes, you can show the assets in the Children's accounts without I-864. Your name is on those accounts and you control them.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I have been reading posts about people who qualify through assets, yet still have to get a joint sponsor because they have insufficient income.

So I figured I would also get a joint sponsor since it couldn't hurt and would probably help.

Although to be honest, I am so far over the required amount, it does seem a bit silly.

You've most likely been reading about people who receive a case not suggesting they might want to secure a joint sponsor.  If you know you have well over the required amount of liquid assets, just ignore that notice.  You....WILL get it though.

You won't regret getting an eligible joint sponsor. Using assets can be hit of miss.

Here's one recent example:

Especially when you talk about assets belonging to minor children, there's a great chance adjudicator won't even understand it and send RFE. If they disregard assets belonging to person directly, expecting them to easily accept assets in this situation is optimistic.
