We ducked most of it.  As it passed by we did get several bands along with the rains and winds (70-80 mph gusts) and a few tornados.

Got woken up at 1:30am Thursday morning with the cell phones screaming alerts because of a tornado warning in our immediate area.  I rolled over and went back to sleep.  Got up about 5:30 and shortly after getting my wife up the power went out.  We went to the office anyway and fortunately the power was on there.  Worked the whole day and was surprisingly busy.  Got home to find the power was back on, but had been out for a full 9 hours.  The yard is a mess and will take several days to pick up the branches and palm fronds.

 

Talked with my son who is full time National Guard out of Jacksonville with a helicopter division.  He said they are gearing up for search and rescue/recovery.  I told him it must be exciting to finally get to do what they have trained for.  He said not really because it's going to screw up his weekend.  LOL

Aside from structural damage and no power, this is the big thing.

It took weeks for my area to pick up yard debris after Beryl.

Harris Campaign Declines To Say Whether She Supports The Hurricane Or Not

 

U.S. — According to media representatives, journalists are being stonewalled by the Kamala Harris campaign as they seek a simple comment on Hurricane Helene.  Campaign officials have repeatedly declined to say whether or not Kamala Harris supports the category 4 storm.

With Biden and Harris MIA After Helene Devastation, Trump Steps Up

 

Kamala Harris was in San Francisco for a campaign fundraiser on Sunday, and by Monday, Joe Biden announced that there would be no additional federal aid for Hurricane Helene victims.  It's just another example of the incompetence and indifference we've come to expect from the Biden-Harris administration when it comes to handling disasters.

Thankfully, Donald Trump stepped up to fill the leadership void.

President Trump gave a speech in Valdosta, Ga., addressing Hurricane Helene's aftermath.  During the speech, Trump not only pledged support and praised ongoing relief efforts, but he also discussed aid distribution.  He emphasized unity, acknowledged victims, and called for more federal assistance to affected areas.  [...]

Biden/Harris:  No More Aid for Hurricane Victims

 

You can't make this up.

 

As Southeastern states were devastated by a Biblical disaster, Biden was relaxing on the beach in Delaware.  He and Jill were enjoying a bit of sun as North Carolina, in particular, was devastated, with entire towns wiped off the map.

Quite literally they are gone, along with an as-yet unknown number of people.  We may never know the numbers.

 

Before he went off to have his fun in the sun, Biden found time to send another $2.4 billion to Ukraine, and when he was coming home, he took a bit of time to tell the people of Appalachia that, since they vote Republican, they will get no more aid from the feds.

Florida City Declares Hurricane Emergency, Bans Gun Sales and Even Displays

 

If we learned one thing from the COVID pandemic, it's that the government will declare an emergency and immediately begin curtailing rights.  Knowing that Hurricane Helene was approaching, the city council of Okeechobee, Florida, declared a local state of emergency and banned gun sales.  But that's not all.  Also banned was the display of guns or ammunition at any store or shop.  Finally, "the intentional possession in a public place of a firearm by any person, except a duly authorized law enforcement official or person in military service" was prohibited.

 

The Firearms Policy Coalition got in touch with the DeSantis administration, which directed Okeechobee's police chief to rescind the order.  Chalk up another win for Ron DeSantis.  [...]

WATCH:  A Disaster of Another Kind Strikes When Biden Is Asked Why He Was at the Beach in Midst of Helene

 

[...] Well, it's Monday now and Biden is back at the White House from his Rehoboth Beach trip.

 

This morning, he gave a speech talking about the devastation from Helene and how the federal government would allegedly be there "as long as it takes to finish this job," which was an interesting statement to make considering it's not clear how much if any federal help has arrived at the impacted areas.

After the speech, where he also pledged to visit hard-hit areas when he wouldn't be so "disruptive" to the process, one determined reporter essentially asked Biden as he was walking out the door why he and Vice President Kamala Harris were not around this past weekend in the midst of the disaster.

North Carolina Agrees To Purchase Several Hunter Biden Paintings In Return For U.S. Aid

 

RALEIGH, NC — As disaster response efforts ramped up following the devastation of Hurricane Helene, North Carolina announced it had agreed to purchase several Hunter Biden paintings in return for U.S. aid.

Not really an issue.  Everyone in Okeechobee is already well armed.
