Stores here are, at most, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.  I miss the days when they were open till midnight or even 1 a.m.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I get some things from Chewy but not all as it is still cheaper at Walmart or Chewy doesn't carry what I want. Yes I miss the Open 24hours of Walmart. It was that way when I moved here and it was

Aldi is very good - thats where my family goes for food shopping at the moment. Saves about £20 a shop compared to some of the other supermarkets in the UK.   Costco is very good - I do like

Yes I miss the Open 24hours of Walmart. It was that way when I moved here and it was nice.

The only thing that I hate about HEB is all the personal shoppers gathering curbside orders.  The miserable carts are as tall as the Empire State Building and block the aisles.

I do like Aldi as well - used to shop there in the UK. I have heard their branded products are really good as well and better quality than Walmart.

That is definitely true, plus you don't have to deal with the semis coming in and going out.

Here in Florida we mostly do Aldi's, Walmart if I need other non-grocery things, Sam's Club if I need a thousand of something, Publix (mostly buy 1 get 1 items)...and there is a non-chain Farmer Joe's in Cape Coral that I really like, has a great selection, but it is a rare trip and a little pricey.

The first time we went to Buc-ees the kids were in total awe! 

 

We are getting a Buc-ees in Arkansas. It will be about 30mins from us and not a direction we go often. So I might not tell the kids. It costs us a bloody fortune in there.

It's been an interesting experience trying to shop for groceries here in CA on a very tight budget (husband is in school FT and I haven't been able to find a job yet) - we were going to Aldi's for a while but the selection is limited and lately the quality has been very questionable. Sadness!

(I visited the in-laws in TX over the new year though and they took us to Central Market. Oh my goodness that was quite an experience.)

It's the stuff we end up getting. I'm sure other things are not too bad, but when you have 5 to buy for it is never under $70
