Agree 100% with this! I often bite the bullet if the deal is good enough -- quality stuff that (if it fits in the freezer) is good for many meals.

It is interesting, I have been going to Costco occasionally for the past 10 yrs or so as I joined after my wife suggested it, and I have yet to sample anything, or get any prepared food from there.

In our town with all the older retired folks, sample day is a big event.  They know how to make a meal out of it.

 

I was told by a couple of people that work in our local Costco that ours is #1 in wine sales in the country.  Go figure.  I guess when you are retired and there is nothing else to do... drink.

My pal WCG (World's Cheapest Gringo) has perfected a system of going around the store 2 or 3 times and mealing purely off the samples.  He leaves me in awe in this and multiple other save-costing ways.

My Costco Visa is used primarily for "the business" so I end up with a rebate check which is about 4x what yours was.   Plus the yearly reward certificate for being an executive member which is 2% back on most of your Costco purchases.  Last year used those to buy an 85" Sony TV and the rewards covered most of it.
