i entered here as a k1 visa holder and got married then applied for my ssn. Am i allowed to work once i get my social security number without my work authorization?

thank you.

walls1010 is correct. But, if your I-94 was stamped with tempoarary work auth at your POE when you arrived in the US you can work until the I-94 expires - 90 days. Which for you is about another month based on your signature. Then you wouldn't be permitted to work again until you get your EAD or greencard - which ever comes first.

I forgot to mention that you need to have your SS# in addition to the stamped I-94 with work autho prior to working. Which you already stated that you appied for.

Applying for the EAD is a ####### shoot. We did for Claudeth and it was approved in about 3 months but two months later she got her green card. She didn't even start looking for work until the month after the GC arrived so that was a big was of money. Of course you, like her, might have family obligations so wanted to find work as quickly as possible. We were just too busy doing things for her to be able to commit to a job once her EAD arrived.

If you can, enjoy yourself until the GC arrives. Good luck

It is not as much of a "####### shoot" now as it may have once been (although I am of the camp that the EAD was never a "####### shoot")... its included with the new fees - all you have to do is apply. It makes very little sense to me if you are already paying for an interim - why not take the extra few minutes and fill out the paperwork.
