Trump has repeatedly said he is going to round up illegal immigrants on Day 1 of his presidency and have them deported. There are 30 million to 50 million undocumented aliens living in this country. If USCIS resources are going to be diverted into this mammoth task, legal immigration is going to be temporarily suspended. There is no way it can be implemented without such a move.

USCIS does not run that play, it would be ICE and the immigration courts.  I am not really sure if USCIS employees can immediately be transferred to ICE type work as that is more of a LEO type of work.  If anything will slow down USCIS more than it already is, it will be more unfettered paroles.

It's fine for assumptions. As I clearly stated, I was seeking opinions or ideas from previous experience. There is no way anyone can give the right answer at this moment, if there even is one.

To focus the discussion more - my question wasn't whether the legality could change since that could take well into next year for a new president to implement. The idea was more to gauge what you thought the attitude of CBP officers might be, knowing that a change of policy or mindset was imminent..

Again, please give your opinion and no need to convince anyone or debate. Varied opinions add to the discussion quality

Good question but my two cents is c'est la vie.

Riots could happen in a week. A surprise war could break out in a month's time. You could win the lottery then be run down in the street tomorrow. All unpleasant thoughts, but my point is that you shouldn't let life stop you from doing what you want to do. We simply don't know how things will play out. Things happen that are outside our control. Sure, things could develop that you can definitely forecast and try to weather, but I'm confident no matter what the election result you'll be fine.

Besides, stopping illegal immigration is a massive plus in my books, and I hope in others too. Good luck @n.samuraibear!

Literally every reply to this post is an assumption. Without being either of the candidates or within their inner circles, that’s pretty much all you’re left with.

I agree that the whole thread is made up of assumptions. It is bold statement to say that legal immigration will be suspended- I have yeat to hear anything like that.

One secret to a happier life is not to worry about straw dogs.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).
