Joint tax after naturalization

I just got everything done. Received my US passport, about 2 weeks after the oath ceremony and immediate passport application.  My spouse who is on Medicare for his medical coverage, received some letter about coverage B. We are yet to reach out to his agent. However,  we wondered if the joint taxes from the last year (we have been doing since 2020) caused his income to go up and triggered something about the Medicare. My main question is do we have to keep doing joint taxes? We want to find a good way where he doesn't have to compromise his Medicare coverages. Even if we need to file separately as married people. Thanks for your input.

Find out what the issue is first. Are you talking about Medicare.. over 65 .. or Medicaid ? Lots of accurate  info needed here  from your end  before anyone can really comment your question.

Medicare. He is 65+. He was on my insurance, even after retiring and medicare eligibility. But he chose to go on Medicare part B and other supplemental options, starting 2024, so his health needs are catered, especially financially. Any out of pocket we still manage through my HSA plan.

Medicare is not income or asset affected or tested. Late signing up can increase premiums if there has a long gap between employer based cover and registering with Medicare . But you can no longer contribute to HSA of you are on Medicare. What exactly does the letter say ?

Thank you so much. My spouse probably panicked. It is some kind of program where the county helps with the Medicare part B premium. He is dealing with some health issues, so having some comprehension issues at times. I think, we are good and no need to change our tax filing or anything. I really appreciate your inputs. I was trying to recall, last year when we went full on , with his Medicare, there wasn't any clause for income, so why would he get such a letter.

Most everyone who is enrolled in Medicare Part B has to pay for it.  I believe, for most people, it's $174.00 per month this year (that's what I pay).   When you start mixing Medicare with employer plans, it can get tricky.  I would talk with a qualified Medicare consultant.
