Is signing on behalf of someone legal at all? In short, yes, but only if they've agreed to it. The law states that if you've appointed someone to sign one document on your behalf, or 'by proxy' you're allowing them to act as an authorised representative for that one occasion.Jan

Thank you.

What is correct?

You could always contact and attorney if you needed 3rd party verificaiton

Don't listen to the one person here giving bad information, first they said you couldn't do the application for your mother, which we all know is incorrect

And now they are giving you bad information regarding a signature and a E signature to boot.

I find it amusing, but I do not require legal representation. Upon my arrival in the United States, I completed all necessary documentation independently. I will prepare the application for my mother and save it for her. Subsequently, she will log in, sign, and submit it. The guidelines indicate that while someone may assist in completing the application, the individual who will attend the interview must provide their own signature. Although I considered signing on behalf of my mother, as your wife did, I assure you that it is not a significant issue.

How many horror stories have we seen where an agency, friend, relation has completed the form

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Hang around they come along regularly

People being put down as being married when they are single is a common one.

Applications being improved or well thought they are being improved.

Okay. But they need to check information before agency submit. Well, I’m sorry about that.

Wrong

You exact words was "She applies herself"

This is incorrect.

She is wrong, you can legally sign for anyone if you have their persmission. Plus this one is electronic signature

And yet this info, copy/pasted by an official source by the OP, directly contradicts you:

“Other people can assist you with your visa
application. Note that under U.S. law (22 C.F.R. 41.103) you must electronically sign and submit your own application unless you qualify for an exemption. Even if someone else helped you complete the application, you (the applicant) must click the "Sign Application" button, or your
application may not be accepted.”

YOU are the one perpetuating incorrect info in this thread.

In terms of preparation and signature, the instructions on the visa application are to be followed precisely.  These have been posted in the thread.  Alternative advice regarding what "you" or "others" have done is to be disregarded.  Anyone continuing to argue on this point risks administrative action.

I am not going to argue, I forgot the term I was trying to remember and it has just come to me - Power of Attorney. Never seen it apply in this sort of circumstance.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You actually sign to verify your information the day of the actual interview after you do your fingerprints.

"Unless you are exempted from appearing in person, your fingerprints will be electronically scanned on the day of your interview. By providing your fingerprints, you will again certify that that you have answered all questions on the DS-160 truthfully and to the best of your knowledge, and that you will tell the truth during your visa interview. You will be directed to read the following statement prior to having your fingerprints scanned:

“By submitting my fingerprint, I am certifying under penalty of perjury that I have read and understood the questions in my visa application and that all statements that appear in my visa application have been made by me and are true and complete to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Furthermore, I certify under penalty of perjury that I will tell the truth during my interview and that all statements made by me during my interview will be complete to the best of my ability.”
