Domestic Assault charge

Hello,

I am trying to petition for my girlfriend to come to the US. I have a harrasment by telephone conviction on my record from 2007. Original charge was terroistic threats (I was a dumb teenager). I believe it would fall under the domestic violence classification, not sure. It was over 15 years ago and I have not been in any trouble since. I am just seeking advice on the best way to go about the application process and any information that can be given that would help save me time and headaches. Thanks.

Some cases are simply not DIY and this is one of them.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

What age were you at the time of your conviction, and what age was the victim?

Was the charge for which you were convicted a misdemeanor or felony?

Does your girlfriend know about your conviction?

Whatever you do, do not fail to disclose your conviction if asked. Having a criminal record and lying about is always worse than just having a criminal record.

Go to your county clerk's office and get a certificate of deposition, the cost is around 20 dollars, which will explain your case to USCIS, and more importantly, always tell the truth to USCIS.
