@EMBELL_17 With no income, she will qualify for Medicaid after being a permanent resident for 5 years.

Not necessarily - it would on her assets/property.....i.e. spend-down.

@SalishSea I don’t know what you mean by that but my mom got it with no hustle.

*Hassle.

Each state has different requirements for Medicaid. If the mother has no income, savings, investments, or assets she MAY qualify. Just because you mother did, in a totally different state, with a far different financial situation, does not mean his mother will.

2. Form I-485

3. 2 passport photos of my mom

4. Mom’s birth certificate (copy)

5. My birth certificate (copy)

6. Copy of face page of my mom’s UK passport

7. I757 receipt for I130

8. My naturalization certificate

9. Mom’s I-94

10. Form I-864

11. 2023 w2

12. 2023 tax return

I am sponsoring and I am well over the poverty limit chart. My mom needs to show her assets back in the UK? I wasn’t aware that was a requirement. She owns a home but her goal is to live here in the US with me.

The Sponsors situation is the one that matters.

California is currently different to most other places re MediCal.

When my husband did it for me, my financial condition did not matter. My understanding is they care only the sponsor’s finances.

Because she is in my household, she does not qualify for Medicaid because of my income. I do intend on getting her her own home in 2 years so she should qualify then. For now, we are going private with United at $350/mo premium, no deductible but it is conditional so it’s reviewed and renewed every 2 years. If we did auto renew, I would be paying about $500/mo at $5000 deductible but it would never be reviewed or reconsidered.

That must be very limited cover, buying into basic Medicare costs more than that.

Yes Medicare was extremely expensive for me due to income. I used a broker and it’s actually better healthcare than my employer-based insurance. I have HMO though completely employer paid including deductible but still low tier. The one I just got my mom is PPO.

How do you qualify for Medicare?   Even your mom at 58 doesn’t qualify.   Minimum age is 65.
