Hi everyone - We have (finally) started to gather all the document for the Spouse Visa and I am looking for an online official translator service providers.

 

Do you have any website to recommend that you used in the past for this purpose? I have googled but I can't really tell what's good / legit. 

 

EDIT: can I also translate the document and then add a "certification" such as "I, name & surname, certify that this is a complete and accurate translation of the document from Italian to English" ?

Yes.  Many people do.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes. If you are fluent in Italian, you can translate and sign your own certification. I translated my husband's birth cert from Spanish to English without any issue

Except for Chinese, the issue is not who translates.  It is not the translator, that is "official" or "certified".  The translator certifies with their own statement above their signature, that they are fluent in the two named languages, and that the translation is true and complete.  Yes, you can be the translator, but if you have friend who could also do this, my recommendation is you do the work for them, and let them certify it.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

It's possible to self-translate, and it's widely accepted. I would personally use a neutral third party such as online translation service to translate docs though, to rule out any conflict of interest. I cannot recommend online service as it may be a violation of ToS. However, I used a service and paid about $30 to translate by Birth Certificate. It was totally worth it as they knew how to do it professionally and went over all stamps and other notes on it.
