Hello,

My partner and I have been married overseas for less than 2 years and am going back to visit in November. Thought it was a good time to change all my documents to my new last name. When starting the SSN name change application to arrange an appointment it says my marriage certificate can be US only. That's not our case. Can anyone tell me what I can do? Do I need to go to SS office when I am back or is there another document I need to get? Thanks for your help in advance!

This SSA link doesn’t say it has to be a marriage certificate from USA. Just wondering where you read that ?

Here is a screenshot of the question in the application online that you need to submit then make your appointment. This is on https://www.ssa.gov/number-card/replace-card/get-started/apply-online application

You will have to go in person.  See "visit a local office"

All that is doing is cutting you out of filling online. Head in to the SSA office

Just a tip, don't go to the SSA early in the morning when it opens as they tend to be very busy, wait until after lunch.

Good Luck!
