Thank you for the advice. How long after getting married did you file your AOS?

We have not married yet... our wedding is on 10/25/2024. We will file the AOS the 3rd week in November to give time for us to get our marriage certificate registered with the county clerk and get certified copies, to add her as a joint owner on bank accounts, credit cards, added to my company health insurance, beneficiary on my life insurance, etc. and be able to get all that screen shot, printed and included as proof for the I-485

Apologies - I was replying from my phone so I didn't see the details below on your profile which I'm surprised by as I think normally I can see them. I think it makes sense what you are doing with the AOS though as it gives you plenty of time to get the relevant documents and to prepare the file before filing it

No worries! 🙂 And if the USPS Informed Delivery email I got this morning is accurate, we should have Jaycel's SS Card this afternoon which would make it 6 days since our appointment at the SSA office. Not bad for a Federal Agency.  LOL

That is pretty good in terms of delivery date after the SSA appointment. Does it require a signature on delivery or will it just be posted in the mailbox?

And indeed the USPS was correct, her SS Card arrived in the mail today. Six days after the appointment at our local SSA office

@Edward and Jaycel I just thought of a question to ask you regarding this. Is requesting an updated card more for those who have a name change from marriage or should everyone select the option for an updated card when doing the relevant forms for the AOS?

I think everyone should do it.... It will remove that "Not valid for employment without DHS Authorization" message that they put on the one you get while still on your K-1 visa

I highly recommend filling the application out online and then booking an appointment. Our local office called us to the window exactly at the time of our appointment and since we filled out her application online, the whole process took us less than 10 minutes for them to make copies of her passport & Visa, and complete the application. Also bring the I94 with you too. After filling out the application online it should give you the option to book an appointment

Apologies @Edward and Jaycel I was reading this post again and just wondered if you were able to clarify what you meant by copies of her Visa if possible please? I am only aware of the Visa being in the passport - do you mean they take a copy on the Photo ID page in the passport and the page where the K1 Visa has been added into the passport?

Hope you can help!

Hi all,

Just an update on this. Had my SSN appointment yesterday at the local SSA Office yesterday. Booked the appointment online (I would recommend this as well as it saves a lot of time) and the appointment last about 10 minutes. I took my Birth Certificate, I-94 and Passport with me as well. They asked me some questions and to confirm that the information I had provided on my application was correct and I confirmed that it was. They then said it should be with me within 2 weeks.
