Hey everyone,

My wife was born and raised in India and lived there until she was about 19, so she needs to obtain a police certificate from there (she currently lives in Canada which she will also be getting a police certificate from). We plan on getting the police certificate soon, but I have a question about future travel.

If my wife needs to travel back to India for a short visit (e.g., to see family), would she need to get a new police certificate after her trip? Or is that only required if she takes up residency in India again?

Just trying to understand if short-term visits could affect the validity of her police certificate.

Also, according to the VisaJourney estimate timeline (standalone I-130 consular processing in Canada, US Citizen petitioner), our case is estimated to be adjudicated from October 30 - November 1. Should that be the case, is it best for her to obtain police certificates for the NVC stage now or better to wait? I figured I have everything ready to upload to CEAC as soon as possible, when able.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Obtaining a PCC in India can be somewhat of lengthy the process, I know it was for my husband. This would be dependent on where and what state in India  your wife originated from.

Thanks for the reply! My wife is from the state of Punjab. If that’s the case, with no current plans to return until hopefully after our case is finished, I’m thinking it may be best to start the PCC process now.

Obtain the certificate any time after she stopped living there.  A "visit" later is irrelevant.
