Hello,

I didn’t submit an inquiry to USCIS but just received an email from USCIS that they have 10 days to answer my inquiry…. Is this a spam? No I do not have a lawyer and the last time I asked for them to change my last name it was answered in 2 days and I got the response. Does anyone know what this means?

So you inquired about name change...

I don't think it's spam but I wouldn't believe 10 days timeline.

It can be anything really. Plenty of people get status updates of "updated name" or "updated address" or similar. My suspicion is that in majority of cases that's just a do-nothing status update, basically someone took it off the stack for some reason, and in order to put it back they need to do something to it, and just clicking on update name and then apply is the least intrusive option.

So unless someone is actively trying to screw with you and would actually risk jailtime to set your name to something stupid, I wouldn't worry about it.

Contradictions without citations only make you look dumb.

Thank you because when I did my name change I received another one a couple of days later saying it was completed. Than out of no where received this one so I was wondering was it an error on their part.
