So my wife arrived on her CR1 visa on 8/19.  When I filled out the DS-260, I checked the box for the social security card to be issued.  It said we should have it within three weeks of arrival.  Well, it didn’t come.

today we went to the local Social Security office and they told us she did not have a number issued yet and asked if we’d like to fill out an application.  So we did.  Then we were told they had to have USCIS verify her alien status which could take 4-6 weeks.  She said we’d get a letter in the mail when this was done and then they would issue a card.

in my view this is beyond ridiculous.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Its about  50/50 getting it via the checked box the DS260    Shouldn’t be that hard but it is. You’ve done the best thing.. giving it a few weeks then applying at the SSA office. A nuisance but it’s done.
