Moving household Items

I am a US Citizen living in Canada as PR, with my Canadian citizen husband, and we have applied for his green card.  I will be moving back to the US in a couple of months and he will stay in Canada until he is hopefully approved. Can I start moving my household items back before actually moving back, will I have issues at border? My husband will probably travel with me and we will use a trailer, it will just be easier for me as I can take a load back now and not pay for everything to be moved for me. I would like to move everything now but I am guessing moving his stuff with mine would be a hard no  TIA!

You should be able to because you're a citizen.  However, your hubs may be scrutinized so make sure you guys have STRONG ties to Canada for him when he's with you, indicating he's returning to Canada to finish out the process.  Letter of employment, lease agreement/mortgage, current bills, etc.  He may never be asked, or he may get a cranky CBP officer and that's just not a fun thing to deal with.  

 

Make sure you create an inventory of what you're loading into the trailer - hand written is fine.  Good luck with the staged moving!

I'm almost in the similar situation as the OP. I am US citizen but I have Canadian PR (30 more days until i can apply for Canadian citizenship, woot !!!). My wife and daughter were just rcently approved (IR1 and IR2) to immigrate to the US. I was thinking of taking a bit of small stuff from my wife's house in my SUV across the border to my US house (2 hours drive) on a regular basis. For example, taking frequent trips back/forth every weekend by myself.

I'm not sure if I need to declare anything at the US border that it's her stuff or my stuff to the CBP folks? Or is that allowed (moving a bit stuff here and there)?

 

We plan on getting a moving company to move our furniture and heavy stuff which I understand that we need a list of inventory plus various duty forms, etc. to give to the CBP folks.

We had no issues crossing. I had a spreadsheet of what was in each box and the agent didn’t even care to look at it. Also had my dog and agent didn’t even ask for that paperwork. I drove my car over and my husband drove his truck pulling the Uhaul trailer. We went in same lane and I went first. I told agent my husband was behind me with my stuff. No issues or cares but the agent. Once my husband gets his green card we will probably have a mover take our stuff as he has all the large furniture and his stuff. 
I stressed for weeks before hand and it was really easy.
