I was extremely active as a child, slowed down in my teens, and then got really into exercise in my 20's.

Then............. had kids, no time, no money, no desire, no energy, etc., etc., etc., and didn't exercise much (except to run around after 3 kids) until my 50's. Now, we walk at least 5 nights a week with our dog and hike on weekends.

I was a farm girl growing up so I had to be active. When I left for college my activity level really went down, unless partying counts. :P I started jogging about 5 years ago, but then since I broke my foot so bad 2 years ago, I HAD to slow down. Now I do my elliptical about 3 times a week for about 30 minutes (or till my foot starts spazing out) and I walk 1-2 miles 3 times a week plus I lift weights every night.

I did virtually no sports at school apart from what we were made to do. Ended up nearly 100lb overweight. Spent 2 years losing it at age 18-20 and never looked back. I used to cycle around 80 miles a week after joining a cycling club in college.

Carried on cycling since though can't do any more than 50 miles a week as my knees are getting knackered even at the tender age of 36! I used to be a heavy gym goer when I lived in London. Spinning and circuit classes were my fave but I did also include weights. Now there's no gym so I still cycle to work or walk everywhere, and ski to work plus x-country in the winter.

I work out 6 days a week (gym, cardio, lifting weight). Well, that's the plan I've been following for a while, but now that I'm working sometimes I feel tired and without energy.

So my only obstacle is lack of energy or being tired. I vote work on the last one, even though work doesn't stop me from exercising, but you didn't give other choice like ''other'' or ''no obstacle'' so work it is since that is the reason that sometimes I am too tired.

I have access to over 3 gyms on post for free, and I leave work early enough to go to the gym, so I have time, conditions, places, no excuse not to work out.

When I was a child/teenager I did pretty much everything. Ballet classes, swimming lessons, muay thai, street dance, capoeira, a couple more dancing classes like jazz, at school I played basketball, handball, voleyball, soccer, I was extremely active.

Then I had a few years that I did nothing, but most of my life I was very active.

It is now the height of summer. I am not active outdoors anymore because I am ridiculously sensitive to the heat. I guess I could lose weight from throwing up all day from as little as an hour of heat and sun, but naaaaahhhh. I think the vast majority of my exercise now comes from my 1.5-2 hours of frantic, running around like a chicken with its head cut off housework I have to do every night just to get through the next day.

From Sept-June though, I am usually outside hiking or walking around 4-7 miles at least a day.

So right now, I am not as active as I could be, but I can't afford a gym membership and a babysitter on top of that for my daughter. So, stuck in the house until the weather cools down.

Welcome to Vermont! :jest:

I had a pretty active childhood - soccer, tennis, swimming, downhill skiing, horseback riding. Slowed waaaay down in college but now am trying to get fit again. I do 15-30 minutes of pilates 5 times a week, try and walk for a half hour most nights, and also try and cycle about 15 miles every weekend. I need to start doing some strength training though.

I am fortunate to have free access to a gym at my office, but like Nessa, I find that when I am tired I am less likely to work out.

I ride and care for a horse (and hiking to the north quarter of pasture do get him definitely counts!)

Failing that, I do pilates. This for when I don't have the time to get out to the barn.

I've always been fairly active, earned a varsity letter in track & field in high school and played on a few sports teams.
