The status changed to issued this morning. There is no tracking number right now. I selected a delivery location in Ottawa which is where I live. I didn’t pay for premium delivery so I am worried it is going to be delayed by Canada post. Anyone with insight I would appreciate it!

You still have time to go into the usvisa.info website account and change to premium processing. I called the visa unit today and they confirmed that if you have premium delivery, it will be not impacted due to the strike. I hope the tracking number comes in the next couple of days for both of us.

Thank you! I in fact did this a little while ago. I was surprised it worked since it said you couldn’t change it after the day of your interview. Anyway, I just got a tracking number !!  Moral of the story. Pay for premium delivery while the strike is going on.

Side note,  I’m amazed you could call them!

Thats amazing that you got the tracking#, does it tell you when your package will be delivered? Does the new tracking# show up on your usvisa.info account?

What Visa category are you in?

I got an email from the same email I got the interview/payment confirmation that has the link to the purolator tracking information. I also got a separate email from purolator directly. I don’t yet have a delivery estimate. It still just says label created. The package hasn’t been picked up yet.

edit to add: I just checked and it was picked up. Estimated delivery tomorrow!!!

I am in the k1 category

Hi everyone,

I had my visa interview at the Montreal consulate on October 15, 2024, and my application was refused under 221g and DS5535. The visa officer requested my CV, which I provided on spot, and I filled out the DS-5535 the same day. Surprisingly, on October 17, 2024, the consulate requested my passport, which I sent via Canada Post Express the same day. The consulate received it on October 18, 2024 as per the courier confirmation. Since then, I’ve noticed about three  updates to my case, but the status still shows "Refused."

Case Information:

  • Case Type: EB2-NIW (ROW)
  • Interview Date: October 15, 2024
  • Passport Request: October 17, 2024
  • Passport Received by Consulate: October 18, 2024
  • Last Case Update: November 6, 2024

I was wondering:

  1. How long does it typically take for the visa to be issued after the passport is received?
  2. Does the request for my passport indicate that administrative processing is complete? Please find attached a screenshot of the passport request email I received from the consulate. Is this type of email commonly sent once processing is finished, or do they explicitly mention when administrative processing is complete?

I’m beginning to feel a bit anxious and would greatly appreciate any insights or experiences you might have.

Thank you!

They do not mention when AP is done, "refused" means that you are in AP. It took me 4 weeks to get the passport back. But make sure to keep checking your case status everyday. It will change to "ready" and then "Issued". Once its Issued, they will send you the passport tracking number. Make sure you go for premium delivery to your home address due to the canada post strike. You should be getting an approval soon!

I requested premium delivery and am concerned about whether they will keep my passport for longer. My passport was delivered on October 18, so it’s been over a month, and there have been no updates since November 6.

There is a chance they've asked for your passport as part of the background checks i.e. to look at stamps in it. So I really wouldn't worry if it's not been returned yet, it may be needed as part of your AP.

Just keep an eye on your status, if it changes to 'issued' then you'll know that the passport will be on its way back to you soon.

Good luck.
