I was just wondering how many in here have used immigration lawyers when filing. And does anyone know of any non-profit lawyers that will give advice?

November 2006 - Married

December 2006 - DCF Europe

February 2007 - Visa approved (After many problems)

March 2007 - POE Atlanta

July 2007 - USCIS mixes our case with someone else's - Greencard will be sent out later

My wife and I used an immigration lawyer, cost around $8,000 when everything was said and done, but he was great and everything went as smoothly as it possibly could from our end. The USCIS misplaced our case for a while, we were already filing a waiver, and the Montreal Consulate was awful, but he did absolutely everything he could to help.

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

We did not use a lawyer and saved a lot of money. And we were approved in 4 months.

But our K-1 was simple. If you have been divoiced, kids are invovled, have a past criminal record, or you are lousy when it comes to paperwork, then you may think about getting a lawyer.

claire,

When filing what?

If filing to make a major family change I would suggest a family lawyer over an immigration lawyer.
