I was wondering how to travel back to your designated city (let's say if someone living in Shanghai) once submitted passport at Guangzhou embassy after the interview? Or one should stay in Guangzhou until they receive the visa/passport back?

Please share your advice

You'll be giving the Consulate, the address to send you passport by courier.  Note, the "Embassy" is in Bejing.  You're dealing with a Consulate.

Thank you for your reply. My question was how to return to the residence city after submitting the passport at the embassy. My interview will be in Guangzhou (immigration cases are now handling by the Guangzhou consulate). I am living in Shanghai and the interview will be in Guangzhou, I would need to fly back to Shanghai, but I cannot travel without passport. I don't know how would this work.

You do not need a passport to travel domestically, within China, unless that is your only ID. If you don't have other acceptable ID, arrange pickup or local shipping in Guangzhou. Passports are for international travel.

As a foreigner, we do need a passport to travel within China at the airports or high speed rail. Without scanning the passport, we cannot go through. And that's the only ID we have unless someone have a permanent resident ID.

If we arrange pickup or local shipping in Guangzhou, it means we have to stay there until we get the visa but, sometimes it takes a day or so for some people and sometimes it takes longer if they put your case in AP.

Then you have your answer.  I wouldn't like it either, but it is what it is.  You'll need to stay in Guangzhou of find a means of travel that does not require a passport.  Maybe train, bus or one-way car rental.

Another option I have seen used in the past is to ask the interviewing officer to keep your passport, then return it by mail once you are back home.

Something else to consider, since most Pakistani beneficiaries experience administrative processing for more than a few hours, you might also ask them to reach out once they are ready to issue your visa, and you will return your passport then.  Otherwise, you risk being without your passport for a while.

Correct.  Good chance of long AP for a Pakistani.  Requesting to have them ask for the passport when they are ready to issue the visa, is probably the best option.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I definitely will keep this in mind and follow.
