I just got off the phone with Montreal today, checking on my interview date. The woman was very nice and informed me that no interview date has been scheduled yet :crying: . She let me know that they are just starting to process May's, that I won't have a interview until the end of September or October. :crying: . I am wondering if it's possible to cross the border and go down to stay there and wait out my interview date with him. Someone told me I could go for 90 days to the States, without any hassle. Just concerned that immigration wouldn't like that and they nail me for it. Anyone know anything about this??

You can go down to the states..there are a ton of threads about this topic.

Just make sure you have information with you like ties back to Canada so they

wont' think you are trying to immigrate illegally...actually bringing along your NOA1 etc.

can help as they will see...it all depends on the mood of the border guard sometimes.

I'm going to be filing for my K1 in the spring and as it is I cross the border each week to visit my

fiance and I tell them I am going to visit my fiance and they just want to make sure I'm going back

to Canada. Technically as Canadians we can stay for up to 6 months I do believe...have to check on

that though. Just be sure to bring along evidence that you are not intending to stay in the U.S.

Some others probably have other helpful info. on this topic.

It is perfectly alright to visit the U.S. while you are waiting for your interview.

I crossed the border by car into the U.S. several times while we were waiting for our case to be approved without problems. They will most likely ask for proof of ties to Canada, such as your most recent pay stub.

Be honest when asked any questions by the border officer, but don't volunteer any information not asked for. The less you say the better, without being dishonest. When I was asked the purpose of my trip to the U.S., I would simply say "to visit my boyfriend", and then they would usually ask for how long, and I would tell them.

I got asked occasionally if I had ever heard of the K-1 Visa, to which I replied yes, and that we were just awaiting approval before I moved down permanently.

There is never any guarantee that you will be allowed to enter the U.S., but as long as you have proof of ties to Canada, you will probably have no problems.

Good luck.

Raymaga is correct. The info she gave worked worked good for us. Danette had a letter from her employer and her rental agreement, but, she wasnt even asked for them. She told them that she was vacationing with friends from the states. She stayed here from mid-June until her interview on Oct 5th.
