# 1.

After she gets the green card ( when somone does their job )what will she need to travel to the Philippines and back to U.S. ? The passport is in her maiden name .....the green card will be in her married name. The plane ticket will be in her married name .... I assume. I thought I read on here she just needs a copy of our marriage certificate to prove whom she is.

#2. How big of a hassle is it going to be to change her passport from the Philippines to her married name ?

#1 You book airline tickets in maiden name, because they compare the tickets with the name in passport, you use the green card to re-enter the USA. It is recommended to have a photo copy of marriage cert to show name change from the one in passport to the one on the green-card.

#2 Some just wait to renew the passport to get the name changed.

The Green Card will only be needed to return to the US. Everything else, including her plane ticket, will be based on her name on her passport. Also carry a copy of your certified marriage certificate to make the connection between her green card and passport.

Unless it is important to you, she doesn't need to change her name on her passport.

That's interesting. I would just do everything with the married name. Wouldn't a Green Card and state ID (both in married name) suffice, assuming you have a marriage certificate with you?

Talking about the foreign passport, yes all documents in the USA starting from green card should be in married name if the person chooses to go by married name, however, the foreign passport can remain in maiden name, the stipulation is that any airline tickets booked need to match the name in the passport, airline officials wont allow passage if they are not.

You can get an amended passport with married name from the Philippine Consulate General. You can do this by mail.

Since you are in Wisconsin, your consulate is in Chicago:

(312) 332-6458

The Amended Passport form and requirements are here:
