Hello everyone,

My name is Devan, and I am 22 years old. I have been in Thailand for almost seven or eight months now. I met my girlfriend (she is from Thailand) around seven and 1/2 months ago, and we are just now starting to put all our stuff together for our K-1. I am leaving back to America (aug. 10th) and am just NOW starting to organize and get together all the documents, etc.! Yes, idiot I know.

Anyways, I have so many questions as I have never done anything like this before, and I am sure some of these questions are kind of dumb as well. I am at the beginning of the timeline, so I am still filing my I-129F form.

Ok, first I have no job, and have barely any money in my bank, as I am still just a college student. I will probably have a job starting OCT. or so but until then, nothing.

So therefore, can your parents be co-sponsors? Also, can a friend be a co-sponsor as well? Is there a minimum you have to have in the bank in order to qualify for this, or do they just want to see that you have money coming into the acct. on a regular basis, because if this is the case I could sponsor myself.

OK question 2. What the heck is a letter of engagement??!!

Question 3- I see everywhere AOS, NOA, NOA2, and WSC and TSC... I am sorry this is such a stupid question but I really have no idea.

All I know is I am starting on the I-129f packet and am alrady stuck!

Thanks a lot!!!

Yes you can use parents as co-sponsor, but you as the petitioner still should provide a I-134 as well for the interview. The sponsor data is not needed to file the I-129F

Two) Example: http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Fiance...r_of_Intent.doc (One from you and one from your fiancee, or one from both signed and dated by both.

Three) Dont worry so much about the acronyms, http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...page=definition

Read first the K-1 Guide, and K-1 FAQ, then look at the example forms there is a compleat set there to guide you.

Read the FAQ on K1 - It really has everything you need.

There is even an example of the letters. Basically you have to have her give a statement that she is going for the K1 with the intent to travel to the US and marry you. She needs to sign and date this, but it is in the FAQ.

You need tax returns, current employment and other data to prove financial support. You can use family as well. I don't think getting a friend to sponsor is a good idea and if they understand the legal obligations they would probably refuse.

You have almost no time left. You need the signed/dated letter from your fiancee, at least 1 2"x2" passport photo of her and a filled out bio for her - G325? It's listed in the FAQ.

Should also have her contact information, work address, home address, etc.

Make sure to take plenty of photos together and remember the location/date.

What is meant is to gather up the vitals from your fiancee.

The rest of the process you can handle when you get back home.

Ok thanks a lot guys, another couple questions. On the G-325A papers, at the bottom it says "Alien registration number". What exactly is this? Also, we dont have any pictures with her family, well except one with me and her brother and his friend.

Also, I read she has to give me her birth certificate and a letter or document stating she is single... is this necessary? thanks a lot guys, i appreciate it

She doesn't have an A# yet, so don't worry about it. You don't need a copy of her bc, or the letter she has written. You need proof that you have met in person which it sounds like you will have.

Here's a copy of the (edited) cover letter I sent with my packet which you can use to help yourself gather the info you need:

Just put "NONE" there, your fiancee wont have one unless she was in the USA on another type of visa.

FAQ: http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-I129f.html#3.9.1

Another G-325A will be filled out for her after you marry and file for adjustment of status, at that time you will have an A#.

If you are still out of country, try getting a group picture with family, it just looks better, and may later help when the consular officer at the consulate reviews the case for visa interview. If you don't have one then don't worry about it.

Educate yourself as best you can. I have found every answer I needed on V J & so can you.

The hardest thing you will have to know is Embassy definition of "Strongest Ties". If you dont understand exactly about that point you will never recieve visa.

I speak from a lot of experiance on this. I learned the hard way .

Your money issues will come into play later. Anyone can be your co-sponser. You must have enough money to take care of her for 5 years above the current poverty line.

The 129 f will take a long time. Look at the V J timelines & learn to believe in them.

Question 3? What is your question? If you are not clear I doubt people will be able to help you.

To accomplish what you want you will have to do the work.

Take some more pictures with family before you head home. Make this a priority.

Hey thanks for all the info. Unfortunately it would be impossible to take pictures with her family, so would this really make that big of a difference? Ah I wish Icould but I can't. They live in Chiang Mai and we're in Bangkok and leaving today back to Seattle.

Thanks

What is the embassy definition of "strongest ties"? From what I have found, it means she has to show intent that she will indeed come back to Thailand, but for a K1 visa if theyre trying to become a US citizen then why does she need to show this? Is it in case we dont get married and she decides to still stay in the US with me?

I am sorry to hear you learned the hard way, have you worked it out yet or no (I assume your visa got denied)? I hope you have, or are in the process of being able to get a visa.

The K1 visa is generally applied for by the US Citizen in the US for a fiance who lives abroad. When the visa is approved (approx 6 to 8 months (this could be longer depending on the time the local embassy takes to set an interview date for the fiance (eg. UK is around 2 months but the dominican republic is closer to 2 years) the fiance has to use it within 6 months to enter the US. Once in the US you have 90 days in which to get married.

A fiance will need to show strong ties if they are visiting the US during the visa application period but not after they have the visa. Entry to the US is not guaranteed before the K1 approval since the officer at the point of entry has to be sure that the fiance will return home after their visit and not marry and try to adjust status.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment
