Hi everyone, I received an email from Orlando FO, “courtesy email-medical”, 12 days ago. I came here with a K-1 visa and already did my medical in my home country, so thats why Im confused what’s this email about as I sent my AOS April they received it May, and also my medical is valid for 1 year as soon as I enter the states. I looked it up and not much people has the same situation as me, I asked some people they said it’s just asking for more evidence, so I uploaded on my online account more evidence. It did not say its an RFE though. But I really think there must be something they want me to do, because I noticed my progress went from 3mos to 7mos to 9mos. Anybody here has same situation? So heres the email they sent:

@salamismiley we had something similar with the Atlanta Field Office with the Great I-693 Courtesy Email of March 2023:

https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/798091-request-for-form-i-693-courtesy-email/

And the wait time with the Atlanta FO at the time was about 36 months.

The Courtesy Email is not an RFE so your choices are: 1) ignore it, or 2) follow thru with the instructions. We chose #2 if for no other reason but to interact with the FO in hopes of getting feedback sooner. Others chose not to for various reasons from not wanting to pay more for the I-693 medical to insisting their DS-3025 overseas medical were compliant.

The FO did not have to send you a Courtesy Email and you wouldn't be the wiser until an RFE. The Courtesy Email is to just let you know what they like to see probably without having gone thru any of the cases yet, and give the petitioner a chance to upload any incomplete documentations in hopes of reducing the number of RFEs to be sent out later which could further slow down the overall caseloads.

Oh your post was very informative, thank you. Did you somehow get approve sooner? Or are there any further actions after you dropped off the forms?

My husband and I are literally confused, whether to proceed with the re-medical. I did try to call and chat uscis regarding this already and on the phone the representative said about all people filing for I485 should have I693 and asked do I have to even if I have sent the DS3025 and done my medical? And she said yes, while in the chat I asked about the email, and told me they dint ask anything from me since no RFE

Yes, we were approved shortly after if you look at our Timeline or Profile->Our Story.

Someone else was also approved shortly after by re-submitting their DS-3025.

So who knows what's really going on?

I also called USCIS about our I-693 Courtesy Email and got no new info.

Here are my thoughts about the I-693 medical.

USCIS reserves the right to question if the DS-3025 overseas medical is compliant/complete or not regardless if it is in the validity period or not.

And USCIS can do so by requesting an RFE for the I-693 medical.

So by not doing the I-693, there is a chance that you delay the process with an RFE.

By completing the I-693, the DS-3025 overseas medical is overridden and the medical would not be the issue to delay the petition.

In our case, we did our K1 over the pandemic and we were willing to do anything to speed up our approval. The I-693 medical cost us an extra 540, and the US Civil Surgeon did spot a missing vaccine that my foreign spouse needed, so we probably pre-empted an RFE and saved some wait time?

Yeah its quite pricey, well will just do medical then, cause its what I understood about the email too, out of all the bullets listed, its the I693 thats highlighted in bold. Hoping insurance would cover most of it. Thanks so much for your help!

And by the way, you mentioned someone just resubmitted their DS3025? Is it the same email they received as ours? Cause honestly we’d rather save the money we’ll be paying for our the civil surgeon.

Someone that received the same email as mine from March 2023, posted in the thread that they just resubmitted their DS-3025 and were approved.

It was a risk they were willing to take.
