Travel in between interview and ceremony oath

Hello and good afternoon. 

 

I find myself in kind of a tricky situation. 

 

I applied for a citizenship this summer and it was saying processing time approximately 7 months on uscis. In the meantime i did my biometrics appointment.

 

Recently got an email with my interview appointment time and date which is great. Its begging of october. 

 

After i applied for citizenship and saw that the processing time takes about 7 months i scheduled an international trip for 10 days which is in the end of October. 

 

I was doing some research but didn't find an answer for my situation. 

 

When do they take away our green card? Is it during the ceremony or interview?  Are we allowed to travel internationally between interview and ceremony? From what i understood we cant travel after the ceremony until we receive passport

 

Even if indo ceremony the same day if available it will be about 2 weeks away from my trip. And not sure if i will get passport with 2 week option included

Green card is taken at the oath.  You can travel with Green Card after interview (before the oath).  Just be prepared to report the travel if it is between interview and oath.  The following instructions (on the oath notification) apply.

 

"If you traveled outside of the United States, bring travel related documents."

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

It is possible to get an urgent travel appointment for passport after the oath ceremony.  It just takes some planning.  Good luck.

If you live close to a passport agency office that is plenty of time - with proof of travel within 2 weeks you can get a passport in a day or two.
